As a Club Pilates Master Trainer, one of the things I love most about Pilates is that it encourages us to pay attention to our bodies - not just during the workout itself, but in the habits we build around movement. While Pilates often gets associated with mindful movement for the hour we spend in class, how we move, recover, fuel ourselves, sleep, and manage our routines all play a role in helping us feel strong and capable both inside and outside of the studio.
When it comes to fueling around a Pilates workout, I don’t believe nutrition needs to be complicated. The goal is to find foods that give you the energy to move well, support recovery, and fit naturally into your everyday routine.
A post-workout breakfast should check a few simple boxes: it should be nourishing, satisfying, and easy enough to actually make on a busy morning. That’s why I love a recipe like Hot Honey Egg Toast*, made with Eggland’s Best eggs, which contain six times more Vitamin D and more than double the Omega-3s compared to ordinary eggs. Developed by Registered Dietitian and Nutritionist Dawn Jackson Blatner, the recipe combines EB eggs for high-quality protein with whole-grain toast for carbohydrates and spinach for an added nutrient boost, all in a meal that can come together in under 10 minutes.
“Balancing nourishing meals with regular movement like Pilates can help you stay energized and ready for whatever the day brings, and with the superior nutrition of Eggland’s Best eggs in this recipe, you can support recovery after exercise and promote healthy bones and muscles,” Dawn said.
If I’m taking an evening Pilates class, my approach is usually a little different. I’ve likely eaten throughout the day, so I’m thinking less about a specific “pre-workout meal” and more about making sure I haven’t gone too long without eating. Depending on the timing, that may mean having a snack beforehand and then eating dinner after class.
That simplicity matters. When a recipe is easy, flavorful, and realistic for a busy schedule, it becomes much easier to make it part of a consistent routine. After an early Pilates class, having a quick, balanced breakfast ready to go makes it easier to refuel, recover, and get on with the rest of your day.
As a Master Trainer, I’m a big believer in looking at fitness through the lens of longevity. The goal isn’t to have one “perfect” workout, meal, or week. It’s to create habits that you can realistically maintain for the long haul.
Pilates is a great example of that philosophy. Progress comes from showing up consistently, learning how your body moves, and gradually building strength, control, and confidence within your own body. Nutrition can be approached similarly. Instead of trying to make every choice perfect, focus on building simple habits that support the things you want your body to do.
Ultimately, movement and nutrition don’t have to be complicated to be effective. A Pilates class, a balanced meal like Hot Honey Egg Toast from Eggland’s Best and Dawn, sufficient recovery time, and a routine you genuinely enjoy can go a long way toward creating a healthy lifestyle that feels sustainable for years to come.
