Love Your Body: Little by Little, A Little Becomes A Lot

I think most everyone can agree that it can be really tough to find a balance between loving your body yet wanting to improve and challenge it at the same time!

Even though I’ve spent over 6 years as a fitness competitor, following really strict training and nutrition plans, and 4 years before that as a D1 athlete—staying balanced & motivated is still something I have to work on every day!
Think back to a time you were getting ready for a big event like a friend’s wedding, a reunion, or a marathon. You may have had some extra drive to stick to your journey because of the reward waiting at the end. There is no better feeling than committing to something and doing all you can to achieve it! One of my favorite quotes is “Little by little, a little becomes a lot.” This is a constant reminder for me to stay focused even on the days I “just don’t want to” to ensure I always take small steps towards my big goal.

When I set out to accomplish something big, I think the best thing to do is have a really strong ‘why’.

A shallow, surface-level reason is an easy way to set yourself up for failure. When it gets hard, when it gets grim, when I’m so tired that I might want to give up… a deep-rooted why—a sincere passion—keeps me going.
Quick disclaimer: at the end of the day, the aesthetics of a healthy body and mind are just a byproduct. As a fitness competitor, I am judged and critiqued by my physique, but this brings me back to my initial mindset - working on your health while loving the skin you’re in (even after the big event!).

Here are some of my best recommendations to stay on track towards your big goal:

2. Drink lots of water. (Try using a bigger water bottle if you struggle with this)

3. If you sit a lot, walk around several times a day and take the stairs whenever possible.

4. Realize that you are in CONTROL and stay positive! (This is always tough to remember, but even putting on a smile will help increase those endorphins.)
